The Motorized Intro to Avalanches is a one-day introductory course designed for snowmobilers and snowbikers who want to better understand avalanches, recognize avalanche terrain, and make more informed decisions while riding.
You don’t need previous avalanche education or experience in avalanche terrain. This course provides a practical introduction to the fundamentals of avalanche safety and is a great first step toward more advanced avalanche education.
Topics Covered:
- Trailhead check with avalanche rescue gear, radios, airbags, etc
- Fundamentals of avalanche companion rescue
- Identifying avalanche terrain in the field
- Planning a trip and using an avalanche forecast
- Next steps for continued education and training
This is a stand-alone course developed by the Wallowa Avalanche Center to address the specific needs of snowmobilers and snowbikers.
